The cottage is roughly halfway between Ballina and Castlebar, the two main towns in Mayo, 150 miles West of Dublin. Several Ferries a day go from Liverpool & Holyhead to Dublin, and Pembroke to Rosslare. Although a car is essential for local travel, there is an unmanned station in Foxford, with 3 trains a day from Dublin. Coaches also go regularly from Foxford to Dublin, Galway and Sligo. Knock (Ireland West) international airport is just 30 minutes drive from the cottage. |
Foxford itself is a small town with all local amenities including 2 Spar type supermarkets, 2 garages, Post Office, Internet Cafe, butchers, an excellent fresh fish shop and around 7 pubs including the MayFly, Foxford’s main hotel. Many have live music and other events in the evening. |
